Many of the attractions are located around the National Mall, which extends from the Lincoln Memorial to the Library of Congress. Description — Originally named Western Plaza, it was renamed in 1988 to honor Martin Luther King Jr. and the "I Have a Dream" speech. The western end of the plaza contains a large fountain, while the eastern end contains an equestrian statue of General Casimir (Kazimierz) PuÅ‚aski.

Description — The site of a future National World War I Memorial honoring the service of the United States Armed Forces in World War I. The existing park contains a memorial to General John J. Pershing, General of the Armies, who led the American Expeditionary Force in World War I.

Description — The Lockkeeper's House is the only remnant of the C & O Canal Extension. The building was constructed as the house for the Lockkeeper of the Canal, who collected the tolls and kept records of commerce on the canal.

Description — This memorial plaza honors the millions of people who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country during World War II. The 56 granite columns form a semi-circle around the plaza, symbolizing unity among the 48 states, 7 federal territories and the District of Columbia.

Description — Designed by Henry Bacon, it was constructed between 1922-1923 after the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial. It is approximately 2029 feet long, 167 feet wide and equipped with a tinted bottom making it more reflective.
